OPERA 101 LA Opera welcomes teachers to the world of opera! A program for the uninitiated, Opera 101 is for the teacher who knows little or nothing about opera but would love to earn up to two LAUSD salary point credits or UCLA Extension Credit while learning more. Full of fun and practical ways to get to know and embrace this art form, Opera 101 will provide teachers with materials, strategies and lesson plans. These resources directly address the visual and performing arts framework. Hear the music and meet the artists and designers involved in LA Opera productions. DATES: All sessions take place on Saturdays from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Gain insight about opera and the historical context in which it was created. Discuss opera as history and art, as well as language and social commentary. Learn all about the stars and artists of the opera world, as well as the production and business of opera. Enjoy recitals and rehearsals, and receive special opera news updates. Up to four LAUSD salary points or six UCLA Extension credits are offered for participating teachers. DATES: Sessions take place on Saturdays from 9:00am to 5:00pm.
Special Recovered Voices: The Birds sessions from 10:00am to 6:00pm on Sunday March 1, 2009 and Sunday, March 29, 2009.
REQUIREMENTS: Registration is primarily for active teachers. Registration for retired teachers will be limited to 10% of the total enrollment. Opera 101 is not a pre-requisite for this course.
