Italian designer Giovanni Agostinucci made his LA Opera debut with scenery and costumes for La Traviata. Internationally acclaimed as a designer of sets and costumes, he has rapidly emerged also as a leading stage director in his own right. Some of his major productions have included Tosca for the Arena di Verona, Il Barbiere di Siviglia for the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Gomes' Fosca for Wexford Festival Opera, Fidelio at the Rome Opera, and I Lombardi for La Scala, which was filmed. His production of La Clemenza di Tito for Jean-Pierre Ponnelle was also filmed. He has designed for the Spoleto Festival, the Opéra-Comique in Paris, Teatro Comunale in Bologna, Teatro Regio in Torino, the National Grand Theater of China, the Opéra de Monte Carlo, the Kirov Opera, the Hong Kong Opera Festival and the Megaron in Athens. Film credits include Boomerang with Vanessa Redgrave, Orlando Furioso by Luca Ronconi and Young Toscanini by Franco Zeffirelli.
